SUMMARY:EcoConnect - Green in the City
DESCRIPTION:Among the many aims cited as key\, certain stands continue to remain visible:  creating a stable framework for long-term investment; creating a level playing field for contributing technologies; achieving energy security; reducing carbon emissions & mitigating the effects of climate change. \nThe question that remains\, however\, is how deliverable these policies can be within a party-political system that is characterised by short-term needs rather than long-term vision. \nThe current Government issues policies & statements on energy & renewables on a regular basis but a recent report indicated that only one in five people in the UK believed the Government is doing enough to fight climate change. There is ongoing discussion on the role of subsidies & whether they support technologies or\, possibly\, mitigate against real efforts at cost-reduction & many investors remain cautious about the low-carbon sector\, citing policy uncertainty as the key barrier to involvement. \nIf more confusion than clarity is being created\, what could/should the Government’s role in the debate actually be? \nDebating the Issues Will be Our Expert Panel: \n\n\nMatt Ridley (Journalist\, author\, and Conservative member of the House of Lords) \nChris Huhne (Journalist\, former Liberal Democrat MP and Secretary of  State for Energy and Climate Change 2010-2012) \nMichael Ware  (Partner in BDO LLP’s Corporate Finance practice) \nRobert Llewellyn (Actor\, commentator on electric vehicles and writer) \nModerated by: Tom Heap (Rural Affairs Correspondent for BBC News\, television and radio reporter and presenter) \n\n\n
